"If they've got 2 million and Netflix has 5.5 million, you're reaching the point where you'd expect to see things level off," says independent analyst Dennis McAlpine. "Maybe you've got another quarter of good growth for Blockbuster. Not much more." Antioco says he has additional plans for more growth. For example, he may introduce a service this year for people who don't subscribe to Blockbuster Online that would let them rent on an a la carte basis some of the older movies in its inventory. About 85% of the DVDs in Blockbuster stores are new releases. As the online business grows, the company may have more latitude to reduce the size of its stores. "Our average store today is 5,500 square feet," Antioco says. "We think we can do a very good job with 3,000 square feet." He adds that Blockbuster will begin a service this year offering movies for rent or purchase via digital download....

Omni Hotels' use of HACKER SAFE certification is paying off with increased online reservations for its portfolio of luxury hotels and resorts. According to Omni Hotels, significant testing of the certification mark on omnihotels.com has resulted in as much as a 9% increase in converting site visitors to guests making reservations during peak periods of the company's business cycle. After observing its widespread adoption by B2C retail sites to address concerns about the safety of online commerce, Omni Hotels subscribed to ScanAlert's website security service in the summer of 2006. "We are very pleased that we can provide this level of comfort to our guests knowing that their information is well safeguarded," said Kerry Kennedy, Director of E-Commerce for Omni Hotels. "We saw immediately that HACKER SAFE would be a good visual support mechanism to demonstrate that the company's website was secure and that our guests could be comfortable providing the necessary information." Before Omni was able to use the certification mark, the website had to meet ScanAlert's HACKER SAFE standard....

The fledgling network is one of the first to solely produce original content for broadband distribution on the Internet, instead of adhering to the traditional business model of making high-quality programs for television. The company's early success in attracting a high-profile sponsor and eyeballs is yet another example of the power of online video in an Internet world dominated by sites like YouTube. But in LX.TV's case, the video appears on its Web site and is syndicated elsewhere on Internet."It's kind of the opportunity Ted Turner had in the '80s when cable was starting," said Chief Executive Joseph Varet, 31. "Cable networks were able to erode a lot of market share viewing time from broadcast networks because they were more focused and specific. Now broadband economics allow us to be even more focused....

“Small Business owners and entrepreneurs invest a significant amount of time in their business. As a result, the normal, branch-led approach to consumer banking does not really apply. Online banking is the perfect solution to meet the needs of these business men and women who need their bank to come to them, rather than the other way around. “The latest figures from the BBA show that 43 per cent of small businesses bank online. At Abbey 44 per cent of our small business customers already use our online facilities and we expect these numbers to grow over the next few years. “Finaccord's Small Business Metrics Survey recently rated Abbey top out of all business banks for consumer satisfaction with online banking. “All business people have personal bank accounts and it is likely that trends in online business banking will be similar to those in personal online banking....
